Random Drivel

As you know, I like to draw teachable points from the world of sports. I didn't spend a lot of time watching sports this weekend, so I don't really have anything lengthy to say. However, I wanted to make a few quick observations.

Tebow - 1, Haters - 0

Tim Tebow will not get nominated for the Hall of Fame this year. He will not glow and grow wings and throw lightning bolts. He will, however, gain some invaluable experience in actual game time. The Broncos are horrible, and playing Tebow now is a great idea.

I'm not certain his own organization wants him to win - they named him the starting QB and promptly traded one of their better receivers. Oh, well...Tebow went ahead and won his first start of the season anyway. Granted, it was against my Dolphins, who are not exactly Super Bowl contenders (they're only contending for Andrew Luck at this point), but a win is a win.

Go Tebow. Shut them all up.

2. Carson Palmer's Debut with Raiders a Bust?

OK, let me get this straight: The guy that hadn't played since sometime last December, got traded in the middle of the week, had four days to practice, and wasn't expecting to even be put in the game was a BUST?

Get a grip, sports writers. Of COURSE he wasn't going to play well in that second half. Palmer said after the game that he was "rusty."

No kidding.

Hue Jackson was silly to trot him out there. Palmer will be fine.

Let's go, sportswriters - write something interesting.

3. Oklahoma State moves into prime position.

Yes, I'm shamelessly plugging my Cowboys.

They are in the driver's seat for a BCS Championship Game berth.

LSU-Alabama (#1, #2) will meet head-to-head, thus eliminating one of them from the apex of the always-accurate BCS rankings. O-State (#3 after an unexpected OU loss to an inferior Texas Tech team) should slide right into #2 as long as they keep winning and are NOT looking ahead to what will be the most ridiculously important Bedlam game in O-State history on 12/3.

Go Pokes!

4. Rangers' Resolve Falters Not

It's been a slow series. No surprises there.

Game 3 was a bit of an anomaly, with Albert Pujols hulking up and jacking 3 yard balls and driving in, what, 97 runs? I lost count.

Rangers' answer? Derek Holland. 8 1/3 beautiful, scoreless, stifling innings, and the Fall Classic is tied up again.

It's now a Best-of-3, with two games in St. Lou.

Exactly what you want in a World Series.

OK, there are my sports observations from the weekend.
